Highs and Lows of a Season

Another weekend of games are here and gone. We're a week away from Thanksgiving and the Robert Morris Colonials have played 11 games in Division 1. If we would rewind to exactly a year ago, I would bet that no one on the roster could have even dreamed that Bobby Mo would beat the #1 team in the Nation, travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to compete at Nationals, make it to the Final Four, and be moved up to Division 1 all within the same calendar year.

No one thought it would be easy and it hasn't been. Robert Morris lost two Senior all-stars after last season along with the ECRHA Goaltender of the Year runner-up. With some new faces on their roster, the Colonials found themselves in the tough competition that is Division 1 in the ECRHA. Although going into the second half of the season, RMU would like to have an extra win or two in the standings, they will still have a chance to compete with teams such as West Chester, Rhode Island and Rowan for fifth and sixth spots to become playoff eligible.

One of the brightest spots this season has been goal scoring. It has been plentiful with contributions from up and down the roster. Captain Dan Trunk has found himself competing for the top of the scoring race in the ECRHA. Freshman forward Sean Lawrence has found early success, especially on the Power Play. He has 13 points in 11 games. New players, Chris Beltz and Jesse Zahn have also found success early on in the season.

When RMU faced-off on Saturday against former Division 2 foe, the University of Massachusetts, they battled hard and scored 5 goals against last season's Goaltender of the Year. That type of effort going forward is what the Colonials will look for in order to succeed. The second half of the season begins in February and the Colonials will see how they match-up against last year's National Champion, Neumann. They will also face-off against powerhouse, Farmingdale. There's a lot of season left to play and with Bobby Mo's play improving as the season goes, it should be a fun second half!

Good luck to everyone with finals and we'll see you after the holidays! Let's go Bobby Mo!
